Classic Ningyo

As ningyo culture evolved in the Edo period, many ningyo were created for aesthetic enjoyment or simple lovability, while etaining their religious elements. Gosho ningyo, with their pure white skin and plump, round forms, are a classic example, for they represent abundantly healthy children. Ichimatsu ningyo and other luxurious genres are intended for the enjoyment of adults as well as children.  Kamo ningyo and keshi ningyo brought exquisite etailed work to miniature ningyo. Keue ningyo (“furry ningyo”), goten gangu, and other charming ningyo were also created.As you enjoy these classic Japanese ningyo, please note their variety and the breadth of artistry they embody.
